One week later...
Egypt has continuously amazed me, and I have only been here one week. I also only have about five minutes before the hot and dusty internet cafe here in Luxor closes and I head back to the beautiful resort for a few hours of sleep before we wake up to go to another temple. But the early morning is perfect for temple visits because it is not too hot. But today in the valley of the kings it was about 114 degrees and only 11:30 in the morning. So the heat of the day is pretty intense, made bearable only by a beautiful resort and pool...and the fact that I am in EGYPT and that is pretty much incredible.
Our second day in Cairo we went to visit the city of Memphis and the first step pyramid...the oldest stone structure in the world! Then we went to see the great pyramids (were able to climb into the tomb of one!) and the sphynx. After that we went to a market place, I was offered many camels in exchange for marraige (somehow I managed to resist but if I don't come home I will send the camels for sure). Then we boarded an over night train (quite the experience and adventure. I kept waking up in the middle of the night thinking we were about to crash, then just looking out the window fascinated by the lights and countryside). Then we arrived in Aswan, saw the unfinished obelisk (think washington monument but thousands of years old) and the Nubian museum. Then we checked into our BEAUTIFUL hotel, sat poolside all afternoon, and went to an incredible dinner celebration.
And now I have to go because my time is up, but I will try and write more. Internet access is tough....
